How to use:
The flowers. They contain the valuable essential oil. The oil you get by steam destillation out of the dried flowers.
Even the leaves are used. You can dig the young shoots permanently, the flowers at the beginning of August.
Use them fresh, dried or frozen.
A bath out of Lavender flowers:
Pour 1 litre boiling water on 60 g Lavender flowers. Wait 10 minutes, pass it through a sieve and pour it in the bath.
Recipe for a Lavender tea:
Pour 1/8 litre boiling water on 1 dessert spoon Lavender flowers. Wait 10 minutes. Then it´s ready to drink.
Description of the plant:
The home of Lavender is the Mediterranean Area. Lavender can withstand frost and loves a sunny location in a chalky soil. The plant reaches a height up to 1/2 m and gets fragant violet flowers, which bloom from July to August.
Propagation:
Start seeds from March to April indoors in flats, in the middle of May transplant the young plants into the garden. Don´t cover the seed with soil. It needs light for germination.
Distance between the plants: 30 x 30 cm.
Germination starts after several weeks, unregularly, at temperatures about 18-25° C.
