The top leaves and flowers are picked. Out of the leaves the sticky ladanum resin comes out. You make tea or liquids.
Since antiquity ladanum is a respected medicine for wound healing.
Recipe for the tea:
Pour 0,25 litre boiling water on one dessert spoon Cistus. Let it draw for 5 minutes.
It is up to you, if you take more or less water. That´s a matter of taste.
Recipe for the liquid: (For gargle and external use)
Boil 5 dessert spoon of Cistus, that are aproximately 10 g in 200 ml water for 5 minutes. Cool down and pass it through a sieve.
The liquid has to be applied on the skin. It has to dry up and doesn´t have to be dried off.
Tea and liquid can cause dark spots on textiles.

Description of the plant:
Cistus was voted for the medicinal plant of Europe 1999 by the scientific institution Herba Historica.
Cistus grows perennial with evergreen leaves and can withstand frost down to -10°C.
The original habit of this plant is the Macchia-Country of the peninsula Chalkidiki in Greece.
Cistus can reach a height of about 90 cm, is well to handle as tub plant, needs a sunny, protected, warm location in a normal, magnesia-rich soil with a lot of water but well drained soil.
During wintertime the plant has to stay indoors at temperatures about 10 °C. The overwintering has to be light.
Cistus gets pink flowers with a yellow pistil and leather, oval-lanceolote, a bit sticky leaves.

Propagation:
The flowers only bloom one day.
Start seeds indoors in pots or flats in normal soil at temperatures about 20° C. After 4 days germination beginns.
I sowed Cistus on 23th July 2005 and on 27th July 2005 the seeds germinated.
