Out of the leaves juice is pressed, also as vegetable they are boiled.
Out of the seeds oil is produced. The seeds contain 30-49 % oil. The oil is used as salad oil and as burning oil.
Young unripe fruits are eaten like green beans.
The flowers excellently are suitable to garnish salads.
The roots are digged from young trees, which have got a height of about 60 cm. Out of them the hot spice benzylmustardoil is made. It tastes like horseradish.
Before the roots are processed, the rootbark has to be removed, because it contains the toxic alkaloides spirochin and moringinin. Description of the plant:
The original habit of the horseradish tree is the North of India, nowadays the tree grows worldwide in the tropics and subtropics and gets a height of up to 15 m.
