How to use:
Hops is a well known flavouring for beer, but it also has got medical power:
The female flowers are picked in late summer and dried.
Recipe for the Hops tea:
Pour 1/4 litre water on 2 dessert spoons Hops, boil it for 15 minutes, then pass it through a sieve. In order to use the tea for calming drink 2 cups of Hops tea per day, in order to fall asleep drink together with 1 dessert spoon Valerian 1 cup before going to bed.
To overcome insomnia Hops also is stuffed in pillows.
A not medical manner of use of Hops is the using of the young tender shoots in spring for vegetable like asparagus.
Out of the fibrous shoots in the past they made ropes and sacks.

Description of the plant:
Hops grows perennial, can withstand frost and is a creeper, which winds around trees or trellis between 3 and 6 m.
Hops blossoms in summer. You find the plant at pathes and forests.
The male plants get green-white flowers, the female plants flowers like cones.
Pollution happens by the wind.

Propagation:
For cultivated Hops only the female plants are used. This Hops is propagated vegetativ, that means by layers. Therefore you have to cut the subterranean shoots with 4 to 5 buds and transplant them to a new place. They build roots.
Of course it is possible to propagate Hops by seeds. Then you get male and female Hops.
