Kohlrabi is descended from wild cabbage. Kohlrabi gets a thick stem, so that there is growing a nodule above ground.
You distinguish white Kohlrabi, which nodules and leaves are light green and blue Kohlrabi, which nodule is blue and leaves are red blue.
The location should be sunny to halfshady, the soil humous and even moist.
Kohlrabi grows well in the neighborhood of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumber and spinach. Not so good neighbors are onions. Propagation:
From February to April sow Kohlrabi indoors in flats in a depth of 1-2 cm.
After 8-15 days germination beginns. Young plants, which stand very close to each other have to be picked out.
From April the plants can be transplanted outdoors. The distance between the plants should be 25x30 cm.
From May to June you can sow Kohlrabi directly into your garden.
Kohlrabi has to be watered regulary. If you donīt do it, they burst open.
Eat Kohlrabi very early after sowing, so long it is tender. Older plants get lignified nodules.
The nodules are eaten raw or boiled, the leaves are eaten like spinach.
The location of Kohlrabi has to change from year to year. Ingredients:
